Granite Countertops in New Jersey

Granite Countertops in Fort Lee, New Jersey

When it comes time to update your home, it is important to remember that your home is one of the biggest investments you will ever make. Therefore, when you remodel, you want to update the rooms that will bring you the biggest return on your investment. If this is what you want, you may want to consider your kitchen and bathrooms. Kitchens and baths can bring you as much as 100 percent return on your investment and, by adding natural stone, you may increase that return even more. Before you choose to add natural stone in your home, however, there are things you need to know.

Granite Countertops in Fort Lee, New Jersey

Granite CountertopsOne of the most popular types of stone is granite and granite countertops bring a look of sophistication and sleekness to kitchens or baths. Granite is extremely durable, resistant to scratches, cracks and stains. It must be sealed periodically, but as long as it is, granite counters resist mold and bacteria buildup as well. No two slabs of granite are the same, so if you have a large counter area, you could have a different look to your room when standing in different areas. Granite flooring is another option if you want to add natural stone. Granite flooring works well in your kitchen, entryway or hallways, but it is important to sweep them often to keep grit from scratching the floors.

Quartz Countertops in Fort Lee, New Jersey

Engineered stone countertops are created from 90 percent crushed quartz, polymers and coloring. The result is a countertop that is extremely durable and resistant to scratching or staining. Engineered stone countertops do not need to be sealed, making them more maintenance free than other types of natural stone. Quartz has a softer, less “rigid” feel to it than quartz which many homeowners like. Because it is manufactured, all slabs are the same, so your larger kitchen has a more uniform look. Quartz countertops cannot be used outdoors, however, as the coloring can fade in sunlight. It is important to use hot pads or trivets under hot pads as the polymers make the countertop less heat resistant than other types of stone.

The fact that there are buildings more than a century old with stunning marble flooring, stairways and accents is a testament to the timeless beauty of the natural stone. Marble is the perfect choice for bakers as the coolness of the stone creates the perfect surface for kneading dough. Marble is softer than other types of stone, so it is more susceptible to cracking, staining and scratching. Never store decorative oil bottle on marble countertops as they can discolor the surface. Wipe up spills of coffee, citrus juices and red wine quickly as acidic materials can damage the surface. Marble does need to be sealed periodically, but it can be cleaned with mild soap and water.
