Travertine

Modern colorful Travertine bathroom tub area. The natural beauty of Travertine has caused this natural stone to grow tremendously in popularity. With an earth tone color palette including walnut and ivory, there is no such thing as a boring single tone in any of our products. Multiple veining characteristics within the surface pits and depressions vary the tones to exude the luxurious feel of antiquity. Although it is considered a cousin of the limestone family, the old-world style stands out in a classification of its own.

What is Travertine?

Formed exclusively in hot springs and limestone caves, it is a naturally occurring metamorphic stone. The holes in the stone caused by evasion of carbon dioxide are one of the defining traits. It is mined from large quarries with the purpose of forming into various sizes and shapes intended for residential and commercial construction. Grade is determined by the amount of natural holes existing in the surface, with the least being considered premium quality stone.

Advantages of Travertine

It is incredibly versatile, in addition to being refreshingly distinctive. Floors, walls, stairs, showers, and are only a few ways that the stone is used to stylize construction projects. It’s simple to find a base shade to complement or contrast surrounding materials, such as glass or tile. There are very few limits in the spaces it can be used, especially if the goal is to spice up existing interior decor.

Disadvantages of Travertine

Intense, direct heat should be avoided because it will easily damage the stone. Cleaning or accidental contact with acidic substances, such as alcohol or vinegar, can also cause major damage. When used as a countertop, it’s necessary to avoid the chance of spill absorption due to the porosity of the stone. The high visibility of any discoloration, dirt, and damage are drawbacks that need to be considered when choosing the area of use.

Recommended areas in your home

No two pieces are exactly alike, so it’s a lovely accent in any area that needs a touch of visual enhancement. Flooring, exterior paving, wall cladding, and curbing are popular areas of display, but the options are not limited there. Envision transforming the feel of your kitchen with a breathtaking mosaic backsplash created from contrasting square tiles. As long as the area is not prone to accidental spills or damage, your imagination is the limit with this versatile material.
