Can Silestone Counters Be Chipped, Or Scratched?

Can Silestone Counters Be Chipped, Or Scratched?

Quartz countertops are the hardest available which makes them resistant to chipping, staining and scratching. This includes countertops manufactured by Silestone who pride themselves on quality workmanship and outstanding customer service. However, it is important to note that “resistant” does not mean damage cannot occur.

Durability

Silestone countertops are durable because they are created using natural quartz mixed with polymer resins to bind the stone. As one of the hardest stones available, quartz is less likely to break, scratch or chip than countertops made of other materials. Silestone uses 93 percent quartz in their countertops, one of the highest levels in countertop manufacturing. The countertops are also very dense so that liquids cannot be absorbed. Since the countertop is not porous,

Silestone uses 93 percent quartz in their countertops, one of the highest levels in countertop manufacturing. The countertops are also very dense so that liquids cannot be absorbed. Since the countertop is not porous, liquid cannot seep into the countertop leaving stains. Simply wipe stains with a wet cloth as soon as possible.

Proper Care

In order for your quartz countertops to remain chip, stain and scratch free, you still must take proper care of them. You should not use harsh chemicals to clean your countertops as this can dull the surface. Instead, use a mild soap, such as dish soap, and warm water to keep your countertops glistening.

Although we recommend using a cutting board on quartz countertops to avoid scratching, even using a knife directly on the counter occasionally should not cause scratches.

Scorch Resistant

One of the best features of quartz countertops is that they are scorch resistant. However, many manufacturers recommend using a hot pat or trivet when placing a hot pan on the counter.

In most cases, this is not to prevent the pan from scorching the countertop, but instead prevents grit that could be trapped on the bottom of the pan from scratching the surface. Many customers who have installed Silestone countertops report that they have placed hot pans directly from the oven or stove directly on the counter with no adverse effects, however.

Silestone countertops are durable and can create a stunning look for your kitchen, bath or any room in your home that requires countertops. Many products are rated for both indoor and outdoor use, so you can even include them in an outdoor kitchen or living area.
